South Outdoor Festival, a 3-day event to feature various outdoors activities aimed at promoting tourism in remote rural and mountainous areas in Albania’s south, kicked off in the village of Pilur, for a long time known as the balcony of the coast, in the region of Vlora. The event, launched at the opening of the tourism season in Himara, offered prospects to the rural population in the region so that they can benefit from the sustainable development of tourism. During the 3-day festival, the participants had the chance to engage in different sport activities, such as: hiking, mountain biking, diving, Off Road 4x4, paragliding, etc. Live music, iso-polyphony, part of the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage, and other cultural activities alike, took place during the entire festival. The “South Outdoor Festival 2017” was made possible with the support of the Deutsche Gesellschaft Für Internationale Zusammenarbeit GmbH (GIZ) under its Integrated Sustainable Development of the Southern Coastal Region Programme.
